Description
Indulge in this delightful twist on traditional French toast, featuring thick-cut brioche or challah coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or challah recommended)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, salt, and 1/4 cup granulated sugar until smooth.
- In another bowl, mix the remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon to create your churro coating. Set this aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, soaking it for about 10 seconds on each side.
- Place the soaked bread slices into the hot skillet. Cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Add more butter as needed for subsequent batches.
- Once cooked, remove the French toast from the skillet and immediately coat each side in the cinnamon-sugar mixture you prepared.
- Repeat with the remaining bread slices.
- Serve warm, and for an indulgent touch, drizzle with caramel or chocolate sauce, or add a scoop of ice cream!
Notes
Use thick slices of bread for best results. Feel free to customize toppings as desired.
